Hired Opens NYC Office, $5K Promotion to Spur Market

hirednyclaunch

Over the past several months, the number of employers on Hired has doubled. We have 700+ companies in our marketplace now with nearly 25% of them from New York. This includes a range of top companies from Yext, SecondMarket, Refinery29 and Betaworks to leading early stage startups using the platform in the city. As a result, we’ve decided to begin ramping up our supply of NYC-based candidates.

If you’re a growing company in NYC and are in need of top engineers, product managers, designers and data scientists, sign up here http://hired.com/employers and we’ll get you in the mix!

Hired’s goal is to help foster a strong pipeline of talent for every company. With the tech/information sector being the 2nd largest engine of NYC’s economy (according to Mayor Bloomberg) and our current focus on tech talent, it only makes sense for us to set up shop in the Big City.

So, where are we seeing the market demand for technical talent in NYC? See the chart below for the top 10 tech jobs in demand from NYC employers.

We get 6,000+ candidates signing up and applying to be included in our marketplace each month, which is 6x more than a few months ago. We pick the top 5% to present to our employers on a weekly basis. Out of the candidates we invite each month, approximately 1/3 are based in NYC and 1/3 are willing to relocate, with NYC being the most common relocation destination. Although it’s still early days for us in NYC, we’ve seen some great candidates in the city already join the platform.

For example, a few highlights in this week’s batch of candidates include:

  • Founder of a recently acquired small mobile startup. Graduated with honors from Brown in CS & Math.

  • Winner of the Google 2013 Hackathon; full-stack developer who is an expert in Javascript & Java.

  • Experienced technical architect and site reliability expert; author, speaker and open-source contributor.

  • Completing PhD in May 2014; Current Fullbright Fellow who is a parallel and high performance computing specialist.

  • Low level developer building infrastructure/application logic for equity/index derivatives pricing server.

  • Graduating from Cornell with an MS in May; MIT Alum, former Microsoft intern and just finished building a conversation engine for seed-stage startup.

We are working to ramp up our supply of candidates in the city over the next few months. The goal is to connect an equal amount of awesome candidates in NYC that we already match in the Bay Area. If you know some amazing candidates in NYC, feel free to refer them and we’ll return the favor with a big check. We’ve bumped up our NYC referral bonus this week to $5,000.
